WALK THIS WAY: TAKE A STEP INTO DEEPER COMMUNITY
By: Pastor Bob Thomas, Lead Pastor

Walk This Way

Dear Friends,

I have always enjoyed a challenge.  I think that is why sports so appealed to me.  There aren’t many sports where it doesn’t matter what kind of shape you are in.  My college wrestling coach would often tell us that he was going to make practices as painful as possible so that our matches would be as enjoyable as possible.  Pretty good coaching strategy.

It is fun being in physical shape (as I vaguely remember).  We are also called to good shape spiritually and that doesn’t happen alone.  We are not subjected to something as painful as running bleachers but we are called to risk stepping into deeper community in order to grow spiritually.  That is why a small group is an essential part of each person’s spiritual discipline.

I want to encourage you to join a small group.

Sometimes it is easiest to get involved in a group that is just starting rather that join a group that has been meeting for awhile.  We have some new groups forming just for you.

On Sunday I am going to ask that you make an initial 4-week commitment to finding a small group.  We have some extremely dynamic hosts ready to introduce you to others who want to start or be in a group.  These groups will initially be held at Calvary during the 10:45 hour Sundays January 24-February 14.  You can sign up Sunday and you will receive an e-mail invite to one of these introductory groups.

If you join a group you will likely build some new friendships, go deeper into God’s Word and learn to share one another’s burdens.  I am personally in a small group and it has really challenged me to stay in shape spiritually.  I hope you will come Sunday as we learn to walk as Jesus did, in closer relationship to on another.
