THIS SUNDAY @ CALVARY

CONTINUING SERIES :
WALK THIS WAY
Over two thousand years ago one of Jesus’ closest friends, John, wrote a letter to Christians. In his ancient letter, John challenged Christians to "walk as Jesus did." We begin the new year by discovering some practical ways to mirror our lives with the life of Jesus.

CAREER CONNECTIONS AT CALVARY ENCOURAGES AND INSPIRES
By: Denise Boiko
Being unemployed is never enjoyable. However, through Career Connections at Calvary, Mike Gordon found valuable encouragement during his jobless months. When Mike lost his job last January, with a wife and baby to support, he began job-hunting immediately. His neighbor, Pastor Lamar Allen, invited him to try Calvary's group. Although Mike describes himself as “not a religious person” he found the group filled with people who were positive, supportive, energetic, and willing to listen. Moreover, whenever a group member had a need, the rest were there to help.
Headed by Garron Perrotti and Alan Carwile, Career Connections meetings typically open with prayer, networking, and sharing of backgrounds, followed by helpful presentations. Mike appreciated the mix of face-to-face time and instructional time. “Even as it grew larger, Calvary's group still had a personal touch, allowing people to get to know each other.” This personal aspect brought a strong sense of bonding and camaraderie.
When Mike landed a job, he came “full circle,” giving back to the group by sharing a presentation on best practices for job-hunting. Filled with advice on utilizing core skills, getting noticed, and using contacts wisely, his presentation inspired other job-seekers. Mike comments, “Just knowing that I helped people with ideas that worked for me was rewarding and definitely worthwhile.”
Career Connections at Calvary welcomes the help of church members who can provide information on job leads in their companies. Your input can make a big difference to a job seeker!
